POLITICIANS pride themselves on being in touch with the ordinary citizen, knowing the instincts of the man on the street.

IN the Earwicker column (Irish Examiner, June 11), it was reported that Brian Lenihan once told the late Seán Doherty that the only place where one should ever lie was in Dáil Eireann.

YOUR Earwicker political column (Irish Examiner, May 15) had an item headlined “Oh my God, they gagged Kenny,” which stated that Fine Gael were ‘complete langers’ and intoned Enda Kenny was gagged by the spindoctors present during his visit to Cork.

I HOPE your correspondent Earwicker (Irish Examiner, July 26), was being ironic when remarking that the sale of a souvenir depicting ‘A sniper at work’ — a person who was responsible for the deaths of 12 other people in the early 1990s — is in the best of taste.
