Oh, the up and downs, the highs and lows of national hunt racing. Yesterday had it all for me. It was amazing to win the first race on Klassical Dream and to watch Duc Des Genievres win the second – it was clear the horses were in great order.

Five simple words summed it up.

The day starts well. (Spoiler alert: it will not continue in this vein.)

Beware The Bear claimed top honours in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.

At the 11th hour we switched Klassical Dream back to the Supreme and he’ll be my first ride of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival. We had contemplated going up in trip with him after his win at the Dublin Racing Festival in Leopardstown but with the ground slowing and looking at the opposition – Felix Desjy will more than likely make it a strongly-run race – we thought this would be the right race for him.

As has become fairly traditional for me at this stage, Willie has left me on the side-lines the weekend before Cheltenham.

Day Two. Hmm. This doesn’t look appetising. The heaven-hyped Samcro runs, yes, but he’s one for the big hitters only.

Henry De Bromhead’s Monalee can lead his rivals a merry dance in the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham this afternoon.

Yesterday was a great day, a very emotional day, a day that I owe to a lot of people.

Livelovelaugh, one of six runners this weekend for Willie, can get us off to a winning start, in the two-and-a-half-mile beginners’ chase at Cork this afternoon.
