A PLAN to promote the arts in schools and colleges is to be drawn up by a group of experts announced by the Government yesterday.

THE burden of paperwork and bureaucracy placed on school principals by new laws will be removed to allow them to work more closely with students, Education Minister Mary Hanafin promised yesterday.

SECOND-LEVEL principals have welcomed plans to test all primary pupils as a way of identifying children with special needs but they want more resources to help those students.

I WENT last week to listen to a talk given by Martin McGuinness on education at the Patrick MacGill Summer School in the Donegal town of Glenties. This year, under the broad theme of Building a More Civilised Society in Ireland, the summer school organised an evening’s discussion on the role of education, at which three speakers each gave a paper on the topic.
