THE burden of paperwork and bureaucracy placed on school principals by new laws will be removed to allow them to work more closely with students, Education Minister Mary Hanafin promised yesterday.

The minister admitted her department has not helped principals and their deputies to cope with the huge amount of legislation introduced in recent years but promised to review the situation.

She was speaking at the annual conference of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD), in her first major public address since taking over the portfolio just over two weeks ago.
