SEÁN Steele (Irish Examiner letters, October 9) states that “in the face of the Sudanese government’s onslaught that has resulted in over 200,000 dead, two million displaced and continues to put the lives of many hundreds of thousands at grave risk, Muslim leaders — secular and religious — have largely stayed shamefully silent”.

HENRY GUTERMAN (Irish Examiner letters, September 20) believes that in war there is no such thing as murder.

ON August 29 we learned from your letters page that Hezbollah launched missiles from apartment blocks (Prof. Michael Wald), even though it would not be possible to do so without blowing massive holes in them, and that Hezbollah deliberately prevented Lebanese civilians from leaving villages and fired missiles from hospitals (Gene Cahill), though there is no evidence of this.

A rally is being held in Dublin city centre this afternoon in protest at Israel's continuing operations in the Gaza strip.
