South Africa claimed a surprise 33-26 victory over New Zealand in Dubai to win the first of this season’s IRB Sevens events.

New Zealand retained their Commonwealth Games sevens crown by defeating arch rivals Fiji 33-15 in the final.

New Zealand demolished South Africa 54-14 in the cup final of the London leg of the IRB World Sevens Series.
