RWANDA yesterday insisted it would soon attack rebels inside the Democratic Republic of Congo unless they were disarmed, as the UN Security Council warned any incursion could threaten regional stability.

Airliners are shuttling hundreds of trapped foreigners out of the Ivory Coast this morning, as South Africa convened urgent peace talks on a crisis that it said threatened to destabilise West Africa.

South African President Thabo Mbeki is making an emergency visit to Ivory Coast in a bid to restore calm in the country.
