Subsuming the Combat Poverty Agency into a Government department would destroy the watchdog’s independence and ability to carry out vital work, it was warned today.

In a recent survey of European Anti Poverty Network members in Ireland most of those who voted No in the Lisbon Treaty referendum did so because they found the direction of the EU "problematic from a social perspective".
