Teenager Michelle Wie produced her season’s best score of 67 as fellow American Christina Kim grabbed the lead with a nine-under-par 63 in the first round of the LPGA State Farm Classic in Illinois.

Norway’s Suzann Pettersen grabbed the lead with a super 67 and Scots Mhairi McKay and Catriona Matthew are also well in the hunt after at the halfway stage of the McDonald’s LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock in Maryland.

Britain’s Laura Davies continued her season’s great run of form with a four-under-par 68 that left her just a shot off the lead after the first round of the women’s major, the McDonald’s LPGA Championship in Maryland.
