A £50 (€61.05) penalty may have to be paid by parents of young cyclists in the North who do not wear safety headgear, it was revealed today.

THE dangers of using a mobile phone while driving have obviously not sunk in yet. Now the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory has revealed that using them in this way is more dangerous than drunk driving. Apparently, while driving at 70mph, “it takes hand-held mobile phone users half a second longer than normal to stop and a third of a second longer to react.”

Research suggests drivers who talk on their mobile phone at the wheel are more dangerous than those who are over the drink-drive limit.
