A major Japanese corporation will offer a landmark apology this weekend for using US prisoners of war for forced labour during World War II, according to the Simon Wiesenthal Centre that is hosting the event.

IN response to John O’Donoghue’s scathing attack on Fine Gael’s crime strategies (Irish Examiner letters, November 23), I suggest the minister’s time would be better served if he showed as much enthusiasm in delivering the extra 2,000 gardaí who we were promised before the last general election and formulating policies to tackle the huge increases in crime while his party has been in government.
