TO SEE intensive farming in the west of Ireland, look towards the sea, where last week’s announcement by Marine Harvest Ireland of plans to develop a new €3.5 million organic salmon farm site in Bantry Bay raised the profile of an industry which has been quietly but steadily advancing for over 30 years.

Some 22 jobs are to go at a fish feed manufacturing plant in Westport, Co Mayo, it emerged today.
