Ken Taylor, Canada’s ambassador to Iran who sheltered Americans at his residence during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, has died at the age of 81.

Canada yesterday pledged CAN$2m (€1.26m) to the International Fund for Ireland to support its campaign for reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the border counties.
