Glowing tributes have been paid to the late great Jimmy Doyle.

Two items in particular caught my attention in your paper recently.

As a person who has been involved in refereeing as an umpire at all levels including All-Ireland finals in the ’70/’80s I take a particular interest in the performance of the referee, and indeed, the assessments by John Bannon each Monday in the Irish Examiner, which are very good.

I’M a public servant and just like ambulances drivers, gardaí, nurses, care assistants, porters, catering staff, maintenance workers and many others, I have had to take a number of wage cuts through levies — and I’ll probably take more after the Croke Park agreement ends.

I WAS amazed at your report on the Limerick County Council chairman being ‘ordered’ by a member of Newcastle West Lions Club to remove his chain of office at a fundraiser for Newcastle West Alzheimer’s Society (Irish Examiner, March 20).
