I was fortunate to have seen him play with the Tipperary minor and senior teams. I was also lucky to see him play for Munster and the rest of Ireland, at Croke Park in the late 1950’s and early 1960s.

Years ago I heard Dr Jim Young, (himself a member of that legendary Cork four-in-a-row team from the early 1940s) say: “Jimmy Doyle could take the sliotar out of your pocket with his hurley — and you wouldn’t even know it!”
