A Carlow woman whose husband is jailed in Greece, for crimes international justice campaigners have shown he could not have committed, has spoken of her heartbreak after his appeal shaved only a fraction off his 18-year sentence.

The Irish Innocence Project have expressed concern at further delays in the appeal court hearing of a man sentenced to 18 years in prison in Greece for robberies he could not have committed because he was in Ireland at the time.

The head of the Irish Innocence Project has said he is shocked and troubled by the handling of a case involving the husband of an Irishwoman who is jailed in Greece after his appeal was postponed for reasons described as “absurd”.

An Irishwoman fighting to free her husband from a Greek jail has secured the backing of Innocence Project lawyers to challenge his detention.
