The Government has paid €150,000 plus VAT on outside consultants in relation to plans to erect a €500m electric pylon corridor from Kildare to Cork, via Wexford.

International consultants will report by next June on whether to bury high-voltage power lines underground, it was announced today.

A REPORT commissioned by the Government has found that overhead electricity lines are safer, more reliable and cheaper than their underground equivalents.
