BISHOP John Magee’s bid to cover the cost of child abuse claims was bolstered by two controversial takeover deals for local radio services in the county.

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has signed a 10-year contract with County Media Ltd to provide local radio services for the franchise areas of Cork City and County.

Tanaiste Mary Harney has given the go-ahead for the £30m takeover of County Media Ltd by Ulster Television.
