The vast photographic archive of a former Lord Mayor of Cork who founded the Barry’s Tea empire has been donated to his native city.

Historians are celebrating the donation to Ireland of a vast “lost archive” of hugely significant material linked to one of the great 13th century Gaelic families of Ireland.

A previously unknown letter written by a Cork lord mayor who died on hunger strike in a British jail has been sold to the Cork City and County Archives.
