Thousands of people have taken to the streets in Hong Kong to protest against the upcoming introduction in schools of Chinese patriotism classes that they fear will lead to brainwashing.

About 80,000 people have been evacuated downstream of an unstable earthquake-created dam threatening to collapse, while Chinese troops rushed to carve a trench to drain the water before it flooded the valley.

More than 600,000 people in China are estimated to be infected with the Aids virus with the number increasing by 30% each year.
