NOT quite the MGM Grand or Madison Square Garden but Cork’s footballers battered each other into submission at a charity boxing night in the Rochestown Park Hotel on Saturday night.

THE Cork senior footballers return to action tonight but not on the playing field – the Leesiders are to participate in a charity boxing tournament in the Rochestown Park Hotel.

CORK senior football captain Graham Canty last night described the squad’s recent boxing training as ‘a great experience’, as around 600 people gathered in the Rochestown Park Hotel to watch 20 members of the Cork panel fight in aid of the Cobh-based suicide awareness charity ‘Breaking The Silence’.

CORK footballers, who have been training with Rylane Boxing Club for the past six weeks, will show off their new skills when they touch gloves in a celebrity charity boxing tournament at the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork, on December 27.
