A 55-year-old Englishman has been in court tonight, charged with falsely imprisoning his wife and possessing a firearm with intent to resist arrest.

Gardai are still questioning the 55-year-old man who held is wife at gunpoint for five hours while his house was under siege in Galway.

A stand-off between Gardai and an armed man at a house in Co Galway ended peacefully early this morning.
