Schoolchildren are spreading the message about the importance of wearing seatbelts and being visible on roads at night, and some of the best campaigns were rewarded yesterday.

Over 150,000 children have taken part in a national competition launched 10 years ago that encourages them to stay safe on the roads.

Pupils from two Munster schools scooped the top awards in a national competition that encourages children to develop vital road safety skills.

TRANSPORT Minister Noel Dempsey was wreathed in smiles as he presented awards to children from 10 schools around the country for their efforts in promoting road safety.
