Financial incentives for parties to run more women in the upcoming local elections are set to be agreed by Cabinet this week.

Residents of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa stayed largely at home amid a fifth day of renewed protest over the results of May elections the opposition calls fraudulent. There were reports of more scattered gunfire and rioting in parts of the capital.

The Ulster Unionist leader, David Trimble, has said his party has no intention of once again sharing power with Sinn Féin after the May elections.
