It hasn’t been a notable year for Kerry sports, but the county claimed a big winner at Listowel Races yesterday.

When racing first came to Listowel, back in 1858, the meeting provided a platform for the celebrations of local farmers, whose harvest toil had just come to an end.

I thought Listowel last week was a quite phenomenal success story.

Willie Mullins made a winning start to Kerry National day at the Listowel Harvest Festival as Super Sonic Boom made all the running in the Irish Wire Products European Breeders Fund Maiden.
