Willie Mullins made a winning start to Kerry National day at the Listowel Harvest Festival as Super Sonic Boom made all the running in the Irish Wire Products European Breeders Fund Maiden.

The 9-2 winner, racing in the Susannah Ricci colours of Mikael D'Haguenet fame and ridden by ace jumps pilot Paul Townend, is the sole two-year-old in Mullins' string.

He took them off at a fair clip and had most of his rivals struggling by the turn into the straight. Footprint made rapid ground late on but could get no closer than three-quarters of a length.

Mullins said: "He's my best two-year-old!

"We were a bit disappointed with him first time at Leopardstown, and I told Paul to make the best of his low draw today.

"Paul said he idled a bit in front, and we'll look for a winners race."
