MICHAEL HOEY broke the course record with a flawless eight-under-par 63 in the first round of the European Tour School stage one qualifier at Carden Park, Cheshire, yesterday.

DUBLIN’S Peter Lawrie strengthened his prospects of winning a card on the regular European Tour for the first time when he fought gamely for a share of 10th in the Formby Hall Challenge on the Challenge Tour over the weekend.

TOM CLEARY birdied the first tie hole at Doneraile last evening to win a hat-trick of senior scratch cup successes at the County Cork club.
