The winners of this year’s BT Young Scientist have achieved European success and will now present their project to a global audience in the US.

Three Cork students have won awards at the EU Contest for Young Scientists in Milan.

Milan city officials have appealed for help in managing the huge number of migrants arriving from southern Italy after rescue at sea, as rising numbers are unable to find beds and are sleeping in the train station.

The demand on charities is increasing despite economic recovery, according to data which reveals the extent of the problem. Out of the 262 charities surveyed by The Wheel, Ireland’s representative and support organisation for charities, 72% reported an increased demand for services.
