Wedding of the Week: From Starbucks first date to black-tie big day

For their first date, Colin Yelverton and Jason Sullivan met in Rathmines, grabbed a coffee in Starbucks and strolled along Dublin’s Grand Canal.
Seven years later, Colin, from Parteen, Co Clare, and Jason, from Cahir, Co Tipperary, walked down the aisle at another historic location, 18th-century Ashley Park House in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.
Solemniser Patricia Irwin performed the wedding ceremony which was followed by a glamorous black-tie reception at the venue.
“Patricia was amazing, she really got to know the two of us and understood us as people and that came across,” says Colin, an estates manager.
He and Jason, an accountant, now live in Cellbridge, Co Kildare, where they bought a house three years ago.
They initially laid eyes on one another in Rathmines, in 2017, for that fateful coffee date and got engaged during a weekend away in Adare Manor, Co Limerick three years later. “We hit it off straight away and we’ve been inseparable ever since,” says Colin.
Helping them celebrate on their big day were both sets of parents, Jacqueline and Kieran Yelverton and Caroline and Kevin Sullivan, and their wedding party.
“On Jason’s side we had Amanda Nevin, Diana Moreira Amaro, Matthew Lowe and Dylan Sullivan (best man),” says Colin. “On my side, we had Danielle Murphy, Eve Stafford, Darragh Yelverton and Niall Yelverton (best man). We had two best men.”
Colin loved organising the event and their original vision was “a party for everyone that we love with lots of flowers”, he says.
“The wedding was black-tie with an amazing loving atmosphere and so much fun. We had all of our family and closest friends with us to celebrate!” he says.
“The most special moment for us was having my beautiful nephew Cillian Yelverton with us. My brothers live in Australia, in Melbourne, and Cillian is my godson.
"He’s very special to both of us and he makes us laugh so much. Having him there along with my two brothers (who travelled from Australia for the occasion) was so special.
“Both Jason and I really love and value our family time so having Jason’s family and my family together was so special.”
Another highlight for both grooms was a musical one.
“During the ceremony, I surprised Jason with a song performed by our lovely bridesmaid Eve. As a child Jason loved and watched 'The Wizard of Oz' a lot, with his grandparents, it was always special to him. As a tribute to his grandparents I asked Eve to sing Somewhere over the Rainbow,” says Colin.
Wedding photographer Paul O’Connor, Candid Dreamers (candid-dreamers.com), was behind the camera and florist Finesse Weddings created the décor.
The grooms and their attendants looked dapper in Benetti suits by Sextons, Limerick, and the bridesmaids wore chic black dresses by Folkster.
The newlyweds honeymooned first in Barcelona and then embarked on a Mediterranean cruise.
