Watch: Shep the border collie finds forever home after over 2,000 days in care at Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust has shared some heartwarming news that will have animal lovers across the country smiling from ear to ear. 

After over 2,000 days in their care, Dogs Trust’s resident “drama llama” Shep has finally found his forever home.

Those who keep up with the dog welfare charity on social media will recognise the adorable border collie who features in a number of posts, pictures and videos.

Shep had been in the care of Dogs Trust for a whopping 2,092 days before he was adopted. The charity had posted numerous call-outs over the years in an attempt to find a home for one of their longest residents.

Shep has previously been described as a “curious boy” who lacks confidence and has become somewhat of a national treasure as well as a staff favourite at Dogs Trust.

In an update from his forever home, pictures and videos show a very happy Shep enjoying cuddles, cups of tea, walks on the beach and a dip in a paddling pool.

As well as being a social media star, Shep is a huge fan of Star Wars. To celebrate May The Fourth in 2021, Dogs Trust released a creative video of Shep in an attempt to help find him a forever home. 

In the video, Shep had a surprise visit from his favourite Jedi in disguise and was seen flying away in Luke Skywalker’s X Wing.

Dogs Trust is Ireland's largest dog welfare charity. According to statistics released by Dogs Trust late last year, from January to October 2023, they were contacted by almost 3,500 people seeking to relinquish their dog — the highest since they opened in 2009.
