Fair City actor Shane Quigley Murphy has been named as the seventh celebrity to take part in the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars.

Best known for his role as Gareth Boyle in the RTÉ soap, the actor has also appeared as Patrick in the drama series, Outlander. In 2021, he starred as Thespin Pilot Obsidian, in the Apple TV+ series, Foundation and played Dean Fearon in the first season of the RTÉ television crime drama, Kin.

The actor is ready to put on his dancing shoes and says he is “absolutely delighted” to be a part of the new season of Dancing with the Stars.

“It’s such an honour to be part of such an incredible production and the entire team have been so brilliant and welcoming, preparing me for what’s to come. The spray tan caught me by surprise, but hey I’ll try anything once! I’m not quite sure what to expect, but that’s why I love it,” he says.

“I love a challenge, and this is definitely a challenge for me. The last time I danced was at my brother’s wedding — and honestly that wasn’t a pretty sight!”

  • Dancing with the Stars returns to RTÉ One in January 2024.
