Bill Bailey emotional as he is crowned Strictly Come Dancing winner
Bill Bailey described his win as âsurrealâ after becoming the oldest Strictly Come Dancing celebrity to lift the glitterball trophy.
The comedian, 55, who described his dance skills as âpatchyâ when he first signed-up for the BBC One show against younger rivals, triumphed in the final.
And his professional dance partner Oti Mabuse lifted the glitterball for a second consecutive year.
Bailey looked shocked when he was announced as the yearâs winner and said it felt âsurrealâŚÂ extraordinaryâ and âwonderfulâ.

The comic, whose performance to Rapperâs Delight was one of the stand-out moments of the series, said he could never have imagined getting to the last show.
And he paid tribute to Mabuse, who he called âthe most extraordinary teacher, the most extraordinary dancerâ.
She âbelieved in me right from the beginning and she found something in me, turned me into this, into a dancerâ, he said.
Singer and social media star HRVY, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith and reality TV star Jamie Laing were also in the final.
Smith and HRVY would have been Strictlyâs youngest winners if they had won the public vote.

The nail-biting final began with reference to a âtough dayâ, after Christmas plans were scrapped for millions.
âIf ever people needed cheering up, itâs now,â host Tess Daly told millions of viewers.
âAfter another tough day, we are going to try our very best to keep you entertained with an unforgettable night of dance.â
The BBCâs continuity announcer said Strictly had brought viewers together during difficult months.

âIn a year thatâs kept us apart, whether youâre watching in Tyne and Wear, Devon, Berkshire or Lincolnshire, weâre all watching BBC One together,â he said.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood, known for his sharp tongue, referenced the Prime Ministerâs announcement, following the rapid spread of the new variant coronavirus.
âIn light of the recent news, Iâve decided Iâm going to be positive. You may not recognise me,â he said.
The Duchess of Cornwall praised Strictly for having âuplifted the nationâ when she appeared on the show, in a pre-recorded video clip.

âYou have given everybody so much pleasure and youâve uplifted the nation,â she said.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden praised the BBC One series for bringing people together.
âGreat reminder of the unique role TV and especially (the)Â BBC can play in lifting the nation through difficult times,â he wrote on Twitter.

Co-host Claudia Winkleman fought back tears as she thanked the Strictly behind-the-scenes team who ensured the show returned this year, despite the pandemic, by filming it amid tight restrictions.
âThank you to the unbelievable Strictly team who managed, against all the odds, to bring us this show in such an unprecedented year⌠It was a mammoth feat.â

Daly thanked viewers âfor watchingâ, saying: âWe know the show has been a little bit different this year. We are so grateful for your support.â
The presenters said the final had attracted an âextraordinary number of votesâ.
Mabuse also won last yearâs series, with Kelvin Fletcher.
Her sister, judge Motsi Mabuse, wept as her siblingâs name was read out once again.
Bailey takes the record as oldest winner from Joe McFadden, who triumphed in 2017, aged 42.
The comic previously told how he âdidnât do ballet and I havenât been to stage school ⌠Iâm not really Lord of the Dance. Iâm more caretaker of the dance.â
On the final, his professional dance partner Mabuse told him: âI think you are amazing, remarkable.
âYou just put your heart into everything, you put your soul into everything. Youâre in your world but I love your worldâŚ
âThank you for being a friend, a father figure to me, a brother and for this,â she said of the glitterball.
The couples â HRVY and Janette Manrara, Laing and Karen Hauer, and Smith and Gorka Marquez -performed three dances during the show, two of which they have already done earlier in the competition.
This yearâs finale also saw the return of Nicola Adams and Katya Jones to the dancefloor.
The couple made history as the showâs first same-sex couple but had to withdraw early after Jones received a positive Covid-19 test result.
