How to style your wardrobe for an 'IT' girl-inspired look
Fashion
There’s a trend on TikTok of creators listing what they consider to be ‘chic’ or ‘IT girl behaviour’.
Typically, it involves drinking espresso, wearing red lipstick, and reading a dog-eared literary tome alone at a café.
She’s in a book club. The IT girl doesn’t scroll on her phone — and certainly not on a Nokia brick.
And in the summer, she only dresses in black. It’s safe to say, the IT girl is a semi-fictional character, which is precisely why she is so compelling: a romantic aspiration with serious main-character energy, embodying a lifestyle that feels tangibly out of reach.
It’s no surprise then that ‘Prada librarian’ style is donning its sexy twin set at Marc Jacobs for spring 2026, albeit less buttoned up; or that the windswept heaths of Wuthering Heights are having a moment, thanks to last month’s cinematic release of the Brontë classic starring Margot Robbie.
The Hollywood IT girl had us swoon with her promotional looks for the film — Victorian-inspired velvet neck ribbons, heaving bustiers and John Galliano’s 1992 archival floral coat. Heathcliff, who?
In the real world (and without a top stylist on call), think of ruffled shirts and blousons in soft hues, peek-a-boo lace on hems and cuffs; silk neck scarves paired with prim knits, top handle bags and retro-inspired earrings in pearl and obsidian.
The high street is your friend, as are vintage haunts like Cork’s Miss Daisy Blue.
Let’s not forget a pair of Ace & Tate readers. You’ll want them for the Service 95 monthly read - a.k.a. Dua Lipa’s book club - on the commute home. Just don’t miss your stop.
