Desire Lines: new Irish food, Scandi fashion, and Westlife in the post

Some of what we're loving this weekend

Nordic lifestyle brand Arket has opened its first store in Ireland, bringing the Scandi brand’s chic aesthetic to 60 Dawson St.
With a design philosophy rooted in 20th-century Nordic modernism and slow living, the sleek two-storey Dublin store offers the full collection of well-made ready-to-wear garments and accessories for women and men, childrenswear, body care, and homewares.
Newcomers to the brand can expect clean lines, a neutral palette, and natural materials, with functionality and longevity at the heart of each piece.
Staying on brand, shoppers will find the restorative Arket Cafe in-store, with its seasonal vegetarian menu, Nordic-inspired pastries, and speciality coffees.

Fashion editors, stylists and some of Ireland’s most fashionable influencers were putting their best foot forward at Arnott’s autumn/winter showcase in Dublin this week.
On the catwalk, the best in new-season style was on display from brands like Barbour, Max Mara, Boss, Ganni, and Carhartt.
We were particularly taken by some full glam sparkly moments from Bardot, but it’s the more casual denim looks from Anine Bing, above, that are most likely to be emulated in our wardrobe this month.
Jacket, €350, jeans €250, t-shirt, €120.

Every year, Kathryn Thomas’ Pure Results team offers a taste of winter wellness with a getaway break with a difference.
This year it’s five days of fitness, fun, and sunshine in the Portuguese Algarve.
“I think after the long summer, with the kids back in school and the dark evenings already rolling in, this is the perfect time to get away, reset, recharge, and focus entirely on your own wellbeing without any distraction,” says Thomas.
Enjoy daily optional fitness and yoga classes, cliff top walks, and healthy meals cooked from scratch by the Ballymaloe-trained Al Burkitt, served poolside.
All-inclusive prices from €1,499.

MERIT, the minimalist makeup brand which prides itself on being “impossible to mess up”, is coming to our shores.
Founded as an antidote to overcomplicated routines, the LA brand offers just 18 products across skincare, makeup, and fragrance.
The idea is keeping things effortless, with simple, slick packaging to boot.
Looking for a fresh start? The ‘Five Minute Morning’ collection, €190, features the brand’s complexion stick (foundation and concealer), flush balm (creamy blush), blending brush, shade slick (tinted lip oil), day glow (highlighting balm), clean lash (lengthening mascara), and brow 1980 (volumising pomade).
- Available exclusively from meritbeauty.com with shipping direct to Ireland from September 16.

This week saw Lidl Ireland introduce 45 new Irish-made artisan products as the retailer’s Kickstart range returns to stores.
Now in its ninth year, and supported by Bord Bia, the programme aims to support small and medium-sized local producers.
Working with 25 Irish producers, products include Cork’s Cotter Farms’ Gluten-free Porridge and Gourmet Toffee Popcorn from Second Street Bakeshop.
Look out for other interesting buys such as lavender-scented Sleepsound Pillow Spray, Wild Wok Asian dumplings, Juspy Collagen + Protein Powder, Dukes Ultra-Premium Ice Cream, and Mary-Ellen’s Meadow Wild Soft Drinks.

Angela Newman’s Hysterical Histories Cork dinners are a must for tourists and locals alike.
Her comedic theatre experience, upstairs in Amicus, offers a unique way to discover the highlights of Cork’s 1500-year history.

With 14 UK number ones and 55m records sold, Westlife’s impact is about to go even further with their very own stamps.

The collection includes a booklet of four national rate “N” stamps — one for each current member — and a €3 souvenir stamp sheet with all four members.
