Desire Lines: make a splash in these new Irish wellies
Some of what we're loving this weekend

Two recent store openings of note are Rains and Castore, both recently launched in Dublin. Scandi brand Rains continues its expansion into bricks and mortar retail with a cool new store on Wicklow Street in the city. Combining form and function, expect great waterproof outerwear, pictured below, for both men and women as well as neat bags and accessories.
The Castore opening is part of the UK brand’s 25-store global expansion with kits from the Leinster, FAI, McLaren, and Red Bull collections featured alongside its mainline designs and collaborations.

Polly & Andy is a great Co Waterford business that sells comfortable and colourful socks for people of all ages that are made from bamboo and feature a seamless toe so that there are none of the lumps and bumps of typical socks so many people find annoying. The brand’s commitment to fun and functionality has taken an additional turn with the introduction of new stripy rainboots to the collection.
Made from 100% FSC-certified natural rubber and lined with bamboo, they are flexible and comfortable to wear with a slip-resistant sole. Perfect for playdates, festivals and generally splashing about in muddy puddles. Sizes range from child’s EU 24/UK 7 to Adult EU 40/UK 7, €38.

Not only is Sophie Broadhead a talented goldsmith, but she’s also a talented wordsmith who carefully crafts personalised poetry for special people and special occasions. Launched in 2022, her business Poetic Licence is a poetry writing service which offers unique poems, written in witty rhyme, which “reflect and honour” the personality of the recipient.
Sophie’s poems make an ideal gift for a big birthday, a significant anniversary, a wedding or any of life’s other milestones. Each poem is written to order and designed to be a considered and unique gift — beautifully framed and gift-wrapped with an accompanying audio recording.

Now that racing season has officially started, what better brand to look to than Celtic Tweed? Based in Balbriggan in north Co Dublin, the founders of the company are intent on bringing clothing production back to a town once synonymous with clothing manufacture. Balbriggan was once famed for the production of undergarments, and silk stockings made by the Smyth & Co company and worn by fashionable, wealthy women across the globe — not least Queen Victoria herself. In fact, the word ‘Balbriggan’ refers to a type of men’s long johns. While they don’t make long johns, Celtic Tweed do make a great range of tweed and linen jackets, waistcoats and gilets that feature really nice detailing when it comes to cuts, use of fabrics and colourful linings and unusual pocket details.

Design and coffee aficionados can combine two key passions with the new Liberty of London x Nespresso collaborative design. The design features an exclusive pattern designed by Liberty’s design team in London which features the brand’s trademark floral motifs as well as whimsical spices, nuts and seed illustrations inspired by the various notes found in Nespresso coffee.
The Liberty collection includes Nespresso’s Vertuo Next machine (€219), their Aeroccino3 milk frother (€99), and lovely retro-style glass mugs embellished with the Liberty pattern (€20 each). A colourful spring update for any coffee fan’s kitchen.

Award-winning jeweller Lynsey de Burca has just launched her latest collection — designed to give a little hope to those who need it. Entitled ‘Dóchas’, meaning ‘hope’, the new collection includes a range of tactile pieces inspired by worry stones to help soothe and calm the wearer.
Made in sterling silver and stamped with inspirational and motivating words, the collection was inspired by a recent illness in the designer’s family and a 10% donation from each purchase will be made to Gort Cancer Support Centre, Galway. The pieces in the Dóchas collection start at €85 and this handmade range includes stud earrings, drop earrings, pendants, and bracelets.
