Annmarie O'Connor: Eight ways to wear denim this spring
Denim's perennial presence on the fashion calendar offers a stylish reset before diaphanous fabrics and flowy silhouettes hit the racks.
It’s that time of year: between seasons. Neither here nor there, this sartorial no man’s land is a source of bi-annual dread for most wardrobes.
With weather patterns keeping us on our toes, finding a cohesive point of view or look to serve can be challenging.
That’s where denim comes it. Its perennial presence on the fashion calendar offers a stylish reset before diaphanous fabrics and flowy silhouettes hit the racks.
For spring/summer, expect the wide-leg silhouette to maintain its trending status, with indigo iterations the big headline.
Cargo pockets and deep cuffs like those at Soeur give jeans a polished utility vibe while denim three-piece suiting at M&S lends a low-key feel to tailoring.
For shirting, Western classics remain steadfast but expect a new era of streamlined proportions with sharp darting and ample cuffs (thank you, H&M)-boosting that key wearability factor.

Last year’s big story: the denim midi skirt gets a longer stint thanks to its ‘midaxi’ upgrade.
A longer midi or a shorter maxi: take your pick. Regardless, this hybrid length is surprisingly easy to wear.
Prefer the one-and-done approach?
Look to Scandi brands like Ganni and Arket for recycled and organic cotton styles that lend themselves to transitional styling.
Should the thought of pre-Spring feel too precocious, you’re not alone.
Keep swaddled until the coast is clear but with the help of a few artful accessories like a denim baseball cap or bag.
As for me? I’m leaning into indigo washes paired with glossy black separates for a chic happy medium.
