Trend of the week: Florals

INSPIRATION

Florals are more of a hardy perennial than a fleeting trend.

That's not to say they don't need a refresh every once and a while. That said, this season's garden party is like utterly fragrant.

Think bold botanicals and darling buds; Chinoiserie and Marimekko prints reimagined through the context of patchwork (Balenciaga), sequins (Gucci), brocade (Prada), fur (Fendi), embroidery (Peter Pilotto) and 3-D chiffon buds emblazoned on houndstooth (Dolce & Gabbana).

STYLE HACKS

PRADA: Take a more structured approach by belting a wool military jacket or coat over a brocade dress.

GUCCI: Embrace the eclectic by clashing a floral sweater with a printed skirt. Add a retro blouse and Mary Janes for runway styling.

DOLCE & GABBANA: Go power princess by pairing an outre Alice band with a floral midi dress. Add brocade shoes and a top handle mini bag for top marks.

STREET STYLE: Get extra wear time out of that floaty floral maxi dress by layering it over a pair of frayed straight leg jeans. Pair with glove ankle boots and a loveworn leather jacket.
