Trend of the week: Monochrome

Palette cleansers set the trans-seasonal tone, says Annmarie O’Connor.

INSPIRATION

With the season of excess behind us, it feels appropriate to start anew with a clean palette – one that doesn’t bear witness to glitter, sequins and flashing LED lights.

What better way to usher in the new than with broad monochrome brushstrokes.

Apply liberally head-to-toe and feel the levity of its optic sensibility – until sassy summer sets up camp.

STYLE NOTES

THE LOOK: Think clean and lean – scraped back hair, fresh skin and artfullyapplied highlighter.

THE PRINT: Go graphic with dots, box squares and vertical or chevron stripes.

THE SHOE: Almond-toed ballerina courts get the thumbs up this season in black or white. Bonus? Killer comfort!

THE SILHOUETTE: Graduated skirt hems, preppy polo shirts, graphic lines (keep those gilets and belted kimonos) and boxy shapes.
