What is Xerf, the non-invasive skin-tightening treatment celebs like Barry Keoghan are turning to?
Barry Keoghan previously spoke out about the "abuse" he has previously received online regarding his appearance.
Irish actor Barry Keoghan has appeared in a video speaking about his decision to undergo Xerf treatment to tighten his skin and renew collagen.
A behind-the-scenes look at the Oscar nominee’s treatment was posted by celebrity facial expert and Dermaspa founder Nilam Holmes this week.
“I’ve been working with Barry for a while now, looking after his skin through different movies, campaigns and projects and the trust he places in me means a lot,” the caption underneath the video posted to Instagram read.
“His skin has really improved over the last few years and he looks great. Today we did his 2nd @xerfuk skin-tightening treatment. I was running late filming some Xerf content, so rather than make me rush what i was doing, he offered to let me film him having it! (Well he is used to being on camera after all). We love having you in @nilamholmesclinics, Barry.”
Narrating the video, Keoghan says: “I’m Barry Keoghan and I just had Zerft with Nilam Holmes. I’ve been hearing a lot about it, and Nilam is very excited about it, and she’s great at what she does. I really mean that, and again, every time I come in, it’s very relaxing and therapeutic.
"Nilam looks after my skin. I feel better about myself; I look better. I think it’s important to look after yourself inside and outside.”
Earlier this year, Keoghan spoke out about his struggles with his appearance, telling SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up that online “abuse” he had received about his appearance had become so bad that he no longer wanted to go outside.
Xerf is described as a non‑invasive dual‑frequency radiofrequency (RF) skin‑tightening treatment that heats multiple skin layers to tighten collagen and stimulate new collagen production without needles, numbing, or downtime.
Controlled RF heating contracts existing collagen and triggers new collagen and elastin production; dual‑frequency delivery allows treatment of both superficial dermis and deeper structural layers; and cooling technology protects the skin surface, eliminating the need for numbing.
It’s not without its celebrity fans, with stars such as Keoghan joining Homes’ list of clients alongside Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Joe Alwyn and Nicole Scherzinger.
Common treatment areas include the jawline and lower face laxity; neck and under‑chin laxity; cheeks and mid‑face; and arms, abdomen, and knees.
According to Dermaspa’s website, a full-face Xerf treatment costs £2,500 (€2,980).
