Street trend: Sandra Murphy
Cork
Today I’m wearing a hat (€3) gloves (€3) and tights (€1.50) from Penneys; Joseph Ribkoff coat (€220) from Arnotts, Bastyan dress (€250) from Brown Thomas, Duo boots (€130) and an Hermés Birkin bag (an extravagant gift).
Tailored, classic, functional.
It takes me an hour to get ready in the morning from start to finish but I always have my outfit planned and hanging up on the back of the door from the night before.
I would say I’m more function than fashion. I certainly don’t religiously change my style based on latest trends as trends don’t suit everybody. Also, in a busy restaurant environment, I need my clothes to be stylish but, more importantly, comfortable and durable. I will always go for styles that take me from day to night - particularly to attend post work networking events or any other engagements.
I follow quite a few fashion bloggers and also garner plenty of inspiration from Pinterest.
On the highstreet, my favourite stores are Zara, Verso, Penneys and Dunnes. For long lasting work wear and evening wear, I love Bastyan - their cuts are amazing and will never date.
I recently emceed a fashion show that unveiled the new collection by Catriona Hanly. I really feel she is one to watch. I also love MMC designs. Marion Murphy Cooney in Nenagh is an exceptional designer.
I feel my style works because I dress for my shape - and what makes me feel good. I buy fabrics and shapes that flatter my body rather than highlight the areas I dislike. As Marilyn Monroe very rightly says, “Your dress should be tight enough to know you’re a woman but loose enough to know you’re a lady”.
