Tried and tested: NARS “The Multiple” in Na Pali Coast, €41
NARS “The Multiple” in Na Pali Coast, €41
“The Multiple” is a makeup artist’s dream: lightweight, easily blended and available in a broad spectrum of wearable shades. Many of these work as cream bronzers. St. Bart’s and South Beach are nice for a little evening shimmer. Na Pali Coast is truly bronze and blends out into a sheer, subtle shade. This product is fragrance-free and suits normal, dry and sensitive skin.

This palette is all you need for a foolproof, professional-standard contouring job. Both the highlighter and the bronzer are sheer and highly natural-looking. The price is high but you do get two products in one and very little of each is needed to give you a glow and enhance your bone structure. While I can’t give this a “best buy” rating, it’s my favourite item on the page.

I recommend a Blushwear stick to anyone with little time to spend on makeup. The shade range is just three (including this bronze) but the colours look very natural and respond well to finger-blending. The finish is semi-matte. In a pinch, this also makes a nice lip stain.

This product was conceived as a bronzing primer, to be smoothed all-over the face before makeup. However, the shade is so noticeable that you’d have to apply it to hands and face for a perfect match, which isn’t ideal. The sheer formula works better as a bronzer for individual features (MAC Brush 187, €45.50, is perfect for cream-blush blending). The satin finish is this its best point.

The price is high for a primer but the formula trounces most anti-ageing serums! Daily use treats your skin to a wonderful blend of skin-soothers and antioxidants, as well as several cell-communicating ingredients (the kind that can “tell” damaged cells to behave like younger, healthy ones). When you consider how many lesser serums can cause makeup to pill, this product is even more impressive.

My bête noire about many anti-ageing primers is their texture: cloying and waxy with thickeners. This one is water-based, fragrance-free and suitable for all skin-types. The lotion-like texture creates a more uniform complexion (keep expectations realistic, this isn’t dermal filler). It contains proven antioxidants. It is important to ask for the Universal, as the rest of Clinique’s Superprimers are colour-correcting and silicone-based.

I like everything about this product but the price, which is a lot for such little primer. The lipstick-style finger is designed to smooth individual flaws so you don’t need a thick “mask” of primer to hide them. It is effective and quite long-lasting. The formula contains a nice mix of vitamins and skin-repairing ingredients.

This is a great primer that “spot-smoothes” lines and large pores. The formula is fragrance-free and contains emollients and proven antioxidants, (just what those problem areas need). It won’t hold up if you work long hours but is fine from nine to five. This product is too rich for oily skin.

I was concerned about this gel’s title, as most products labelled “cool” contain menthol, eucalyptus or some other horribly irritating mint oil. Happily, this one has none. It is a good option for all but the most sensitive skin-types, as it does contain fragrance. The price is a little high for such a basic formula.

This is a luxurious option for normal to dry skin. The rich cream cushions and protects skin during shaving, while added moisturisers work to soothe and replenish. The formula is minimally-fragranced (with sandalwood) but a thorough rinse prevents irritation. The 227g tub lasts for ages, as very little product is needed per use.

This gel is a real winner! The water-based, oil-free formula contains aloe, chamomile and other skin soothers, but skips the fragrance, alcohol and other irritants so many competitors contain. Very little is needed for daily facial use, so one can lasts well over a month.

This gel could be irritating, with high concentrations of the sodium lauryl sulfate (a drying cleansing agent), as well as clove oil and a mint oil derivative (menthoxypropandediol).
