Irish-Italian actress Aisling Franciosi has been dubbed by Vogue as the Breakout Star of this summer's independent film, 'The Nightingale'.

Franciosi plays 21-year-old Irish convict Clare sent to Tasmania in the 1820s. The film is directed by Babadook's Jennifer Kent.

The 28-year-old's performance in The Fall alongside Jamie Dornan earned her an IFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role back in 2015.

The Dublin-born actress also played Lyanna Stark in Game of Thrones, and starred in a number of theatre productions including Little Women at The Gate Theatre.

Speaking to Vogue, the Trinity College alumna recalled moonlighting at the Cork Opera House and Dublin's Gate Theatre before moving to Tribeca in New York.

The Nightingale is expected to be released in theatres August 2.
