Newstalk denies reports that Pat Kenny will be axed from station

Irish radio station Newstalk have spoken out today against reports that Pat Kenny’s Newstalk show could be scrapped in the New Year to revamp the station.

The reports claimed that station bosses are concerned as his latest listener figures stalled at around 134,000 earlier this year.

The reports went on to say that the incoming chief executive Tim Collins will allegedly make a decision on the future of his show after the general election next year.

Commenting on the claims today Garrett Harte, Editor in Chief of Newstalk said: "This is a complete work of fiction and contains absolutely no truth whatsoever. Pat has boosted audience figures for his programme by over 150% since starting two years ago.

“We are very happy with Pat’s performance and we are actively planning a number of large campaigns for next year including the General Election and Ireland’s appearance at the European Championships.”
