The Irish Film and Academy (IFTA) held its annual award ceremony last night with a star-studded red carpet line-up.

The Irish Film and Academy (IFTA) held its annual award ceremony last night with a star-studded red carpet line-up.

One of the biggest winners from the night was Brendan O'Carroll who received a Lifetime achievement award for Comedy and a standing ovation.

Other top performers on the night were TV3 soap Red Rock which won Best Soap and People's Choice Award.

Baz Ashmawy was another person who went home happy from the award ceremony nabbing an IFTA for Best Entertainment Series thanks to his work with '50 ways to kill your mammy'.

RTE also took away a number of awards winning eight IFTA's for a number of things including documentary series- 'The High Hopes Choir' and Best Children's Young People's for 'Our Farm'.
