Jim Carrey’s Irish ex-girlfriend Cathriona White has been found dead.

Carrey has paid an emotional tribute to the Irish beautician after she was found dead at her home in Sherman Oaks, California yesterday.

The 53-year-old actor released a statement saying: "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona.

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said: "Ms White was found at 8.40pm local time on Monday, September 28, at her home in Sherman Oaks.

"The final cause of death has not been confirmed, pending an autopsy."

According to TMZ, the couple had officially broken up on September 24, the same day Cathriona signed off Twitter.

Jim began dating Cathriona, who was from Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, after they met on set in 2012.

Although the couple broke up after a few months, they rekindled their relationship in May of this year and were photographed out and about together in New York.

Cathriona (who is believed to be 28-years-old) trained as a beauty therapist in Limerick before moving to Los Angeles in 2009.

She worked on the comedy and drama projects, Firefly, Solitude and The Online Gamer.
