Criticism of lack of clarity on Star Wars Skellig Michael filming

The Minister for Arts, Heather Humphreys is being asked to outline if another film crew has been given permission to return to Skellig Michael.

Last year, scenes from the latest Star Wars movie were shot on the island off the county Kerry coast.

In the last week, it has been reported that a film crew may return to film a small amount of new footage for the film, due for release in December this year.

Ian Lumley, Heritage Officer with An Taisce said they want to know if proper procedures are being followed.

"We're awaiting information … we've been waiting for some weeks now as to what the legal and consent process was … that there has been proper compliance with the World Heritage Site management plan, and with our legal obligations under the European Habitat Directive.

"That information simply hasn't been provided."
