Sunday's TV tips
Having received a sailing scholarship to attend Stanford University, Charlie is ready to enjoy one last summer at home before going off to college.
But all of this comes crashing down around him one night when he is involved in a serious car accident which proves fatal for his younger brother, Sam.
Overcome with grief at the death of his brother, Charlie discovers he is able to communicate with Sam from beyond the grave.
However, when Charlie is introduced to young sailor Tess, sparks start to fly and he must choose between keeping his promise to Sam, or going after the girl he loves.
Any book-to-film adaptation immediately sets itself up for scrutiny. However, it would be incorrect to judge this film purely on how religiously director Burr Stears’ sticks to the original, rather sentimental, story.
Instead it deserves praise for Zac Efron’s excellent performance as the title character and his involvement alone will doubtless attract a swathe of viewers.

Babies, medical emergencies, period costumes – no wonder this series continues to clean up in the ratings, it’s got all the ingredients you could possibly want from a Sunday night drama.
As the series continues, Poplar is in the middle of an outbreak of dysentery, although expectant mum Marie Amos has plenty more on her plate. Her hubby has been arrested for gross indecency in the gentlemen’s toilets.
Meanwhile, Nurse Crane tries to come to the aid of a pregnant Irish woman who is obviously malnourished. However, tracking her down again is proving tricky, as it would seem she’s given a false address and done a disappearing act.
Trixie is thrilled when Tom asks her to oversee her first official duty since their engagement, and over at Nonnatus House, Fred’s got a rat infestation on his hands.
Keep an eye out for the uber-talented Cara Theobold and Richard Fleeshman guest starring as the troubled husband and wife at the centre of the storyline.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have an enviable job at the best of times – nobody will argue with that.
But this latest jaunt of theirs has left us positively green, as they make their way through Australia’s Northern Territory.
As the series continues, and the men are tasked with picking a fast, luxurious GT for the trip, cameras follow Clarkson as he picks up a BMW M6 Gran Coupe, Hammond a Bentley Continental GT V8, and May a Nissan GT-R.
Nobody is going to sniff at those choices, but it’s to be hoped the men have considered how they’re going to have to battle through crocodile-infested rivers, race around a vast open cast mine or brave an encounter with the world’s longest lorries.
And of course, while this might be one of the most beautiful landscapes of scenery, it is the world’s least inhabited...
On second thoughts, rather them than us.

This third series of Sally Wainwright’s award-winning drama hasn’t quite offered up the saccharine sweet love story we’ve become so comfortable with.
Sure it’s been a continuation of the lovely Celia and Alan’s story, but reality was always going to have to kick in at some point, and with the arrival of Alan’s love child Gary, the couple have come back down to earth with a thud.
Anne Reid, who plays Celia, commented at the start of this series: “Celia thinks Alan is flawless and now she’s found out he’s not. You have romantic ideas about people and you don’t see any of the warts and now they’re finding out about the real people.”
It’s been nice to explore the more difficult aspects of their relationship.
Tonight, the series wraps up with Gillian and Robbie preparing to tie the knot, but it would seem the bride-to-be is having second thoughts, and Caroline tries to get to the bottom of the issue.
Guy Martin has proved on several occasions that he feels the need for speed - well, he is a motorbike racer, after all – but tonight he’s taking on one of the biggest challenges he possibly could.
He’s attempting a 1000-mile trip across India, culminating in one of the world’s craziest bike races; Rider Mania, the largest gathering of Royal Enfield motorbikes.
Part travelogue, Guy will be introducing viewers to the rarely seen side of modern India. He visits the largest lorry repair yard in Asia and buys a classic Royal Enfield motorbike, complete with a traditional Hindu blessing.
Guy also rides with a 50-strong biker gang, and clambers 833ft to the top of India’s tallest building, the Imperial Skyscraper in Mumbai.
This is a man who is used to living life to the extreme, but even he finds himself out of his comfort zone, and having to sleep rough among rats, we’re guessing, isn’t going to help much with that...
Peaky Blinders, starring Ireland's Cillian Murphy, is an epic gangster drama set in the lawless streets of post-war Birmingham on the cusp of the 1920s.
Peaky Blinders is a dazzling picture taken directly from the pages of England's secret history.
They will now burst into life in a vibrant evocation of a hedonistic age. The Shelbys will be a family to be reckoned with.
As the leader of the Peaky Blinders, Thomas Shelby, prepares to fix his first horse race, a new policeman arrives in town in search of some guns that have been stolen.
At the same time, a beautiful woman with a mysterious past begins working in the Peakys’ local pub.
When a coward by the name of Tom Chaney shoots her father down, teenager Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) seeks out grizzled marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) and hires him to help her track down his killer, who has taken up with Lucky Ned Pepper (Barry Pepper) and his gang.
A tenacious Texas Ranger called LeBoeuf (Matt Damon), who has been on Chaney’s trail for some time, joins the hunting party.
This is one of the best films of our time. True Grit had an impressive 10 Oscar nominations and deserved every single one.
The production design is impeccable, beautifully evoking the era when a gun spoke just as loudly as words.
Steinfeld, who was 13-years-old when the film was made, is a revelation as the plucky daughter on a quest for vengeance, while Jeff bridges is simply mesmerising as Cogburn.
Matt Damon gives a great character performance as LeBeouf and sits back to let his co-stars shine.
