Of course Chris O’Dowd’s Freedom of Roscommon speech didn't leave us down

We are now nearly as head over heel in love with Roscommon as he is.

Of course Chris O’Dowd’s Freedom of Roscommon speech didn't leave us down

Last night Roscommon county council awarded Chris O’ Dowd the Freedom of Roscommon and his acceptance speech was as epic as we thought it was going to be.

The star was accompanied by family and friends at the ceremony, including hiswife Dawn O’Porter who is expecting their first child early next year.

The Bridesmaid star - who had once been more familiar to locals as a goalie on the Roscommon minor football team - described Roscommon as a “whimsical, musical landlocked paradise” of which he didn’t realise he was a slave.

Alongside the hilarious digs about the Roscommon water and lack of A&E department, our hearts filled when he told the crowd of how he will tell his daughter/son that their dad is extremely lucky to be from Boyle.

“I will tell her that in an ever changing Ireland, Roscommon has stayed true to itself,” he said.

"When I lose the run of myself, Roscommon stays put. I love it. Not because it's privileged but because it's real

"Roscommon is not a satellite town for Dublin commuters. It’s home.”

Awwwhhh

"And if that doesn't work, I'll simply tell him to blame his grandparents.”
