Only one family Christmas film of the 00's avoids the worst rated list
Using Rotten Tomatoes and the International Movie Database (IMDB), two of the most trusted movie and television rating sites on the internet, it turns out the noughties were not such a great decade for festive family films.
Here's 15 movies that didn't score so well on either site.
However, one piece of cinematic mastery did shine through and  is worth seeking out this holiday season.
Can you guess which one it was? Keep reading to find out!
15. The Polar Express (2004)
55%
6.6
This movie is visually stunning and there are times when the train ride from the audience's perspective will astound you but the characters aren't very lifelike and the story falls short for this one.
14. The Santa Clause 2 (2002)
55%
5.5

The general rule is if it isn't broken don't fix it and the same can be said for most sequels. The Santa Clause of 1994 is a Christmas classic. Can anyone even recall the plot of this one? Stick with the original.
13. Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009)
54%
6.8
A Christmas Carol is a cinematic staple for the season but this particular rendition puts so much focus on the special effects of 3D animation that the performances of Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman are lost in the background. Try out The Muppet Christmas Carol of 1992 instead.
12. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
53%
6

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is another classic and festive tale of a creature whose heart is warmed by the joy of the holiday. However, despite Jim Carrey's great performance as the well known Grinch character, this version doesn't cut it. Sit down with the family for the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas of 1967 instead.
11. The Nativity Story (2006)
38%
6.8
The story of Christmas should warrant more thought and effort than this thrown together production. The tale has been told and is known and yet this flick has trouble focusing on any of the other things that make a great film. Give this one a miss.
10. Fred Claus (2007)
21%
5.6

Fred Claus is the unbalanced story of Santa's older brother. If you are deciding between a comedy or heart-warming family film this Christmas, flick past this because it's not sure what it really is.
9. The Santa Clause 3 (2006)
15%
4.7
One sequel was tired, two is just a waste of talents.
8. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
5%
5.2

This story revolves around the idea that Christmas won't happen unless the entire family is in the parental home for the holiday. It tries hard at comedy and to pull at the heartstrings but really it just enforces conformity to the neighbours' decor demands.
7. The Christmas Shoes (2002)
n/s
6.9
The Christmas Shoes had potential but the finished product was the clichéd tale of a bah-humbug man given the Christmas spirit by a boy trying his best to do something nice for his ailing mother.
6. Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse (2001)
n/s
6.7

This straight to video compilation depicts a collection of Disney character snowed in at Mickey Mouse's club and passing the time with numerous short films. While the claim is made that there's one for everyone, we're not sure if they meant all ages.
5. Holiday in Handcuffs (2007)
n/s
6.4
The jist is, girl refuses to go home for Christmas without a date, so she kidnaps a man to bring home with her and despite the circumstances he thinks he might be falling in love with her. Need we say more?
4. Christmas in Boston (2005)
n/s
6.3

This boils down to a complicated situation of mutual catfishing with an uncomplicated and predictably lovestruck ending for everyone involved.
3. Snowglobe (2007)
n/s
6.1
Think December 25 meets Groundhog Day and you've a pretty good idea where this repetive love story may take you.
2. Santa Who? (2000)
n/s
5.2

This could be viewed as the alternative ending to The Santa Clause. Santa falls from a roof, but instead of passing the torch he finds himself struck by a bout of amnesia and one little boy takes it upon himself to help Santa remember who he is. That said, many find this one pretty forgettable themselves.
1. The Dog Who Saved Christmas (2009)
Rotten Tomatoes: n/s
4.8
Maybe not the worst family oriented Christmas movie but certainly the worst rated of the noughties. If Home Alone had Kevin be a dog instead of a boy, it would have been a very different movie. This one most likely. We'd recommend Marley & Me instead.
And the one gem of that decade?
Elf
84%
6.9
"A movie full of Yuletide cheer, Elf is a spirited, good-natured family comedy and it benefits greatly from Will Ferrell's funny and charming performance as one of Santa's biggest helpers." - Rotten Tomatoes
