Study finds Twitter users in Co Tyrone to be most insulting to women
The study analysed 19 million Tweets over four years across the UK, Ireland and America.
It also found that more than half of misogynistic Tweets were posted by female users.
Conducted by social media monitoring company Brandwatch, the study shows that more than 60% of offensive Tweets used derogatory animal references such as "bitch" and "cow".
However, Ditch the Label notes that words that have been assimilated into common usage are not always offensive.
The anti-bullying charity said the findings should be aimed at reducing misogyny across all genders.
Men were found to make more personal comments, regarding a woman’s intelligence, sexual preference and/or appearance.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has admitted in the past that the company needs to "do better" at managing online abuse on the platform.
